At Citrus Web, we're proud to support and develop websites for local charities. It’s work that aligns with our values, and it’s where thoughtful web strategy can make a real, practical difference.
When we were first introduced, these charity websites were long overdue for a refresh. They’d grown organically over time, full of important information, but overloaded and difficult to navigate. Visitors were struggling to find what they needed. And when you’re serving a wide range of people: service users, supporters, donors, stakeholders - clarity isn’t optional. Accessibility, ease of use and plain English have to come first.
Through focused workshops and planning sessions, Citrus Web worked closely with each charity to get clear on their goals and audiences. Together, we shaped web strategies that supported their mission rather than complicating it. The result? Websites that feel simpler, smarter and stronger — built around real people and real needs.
Wix offers a range of apps and built-in features that make it easier for charities to connect with their communities and manage their impact online. In this blog, we’ll share some of the tools that are genuinely making a difference — and how we’ve implemented them to support growth, engagement and long-term sustainability.
Wix free plug-ins that are relevant for Charities
1. Wix Events
For many local charities and community interest companies, events are a vital income stream and an essential way of supporting service users. Whether it’s a fundraising quiz, a training session or a well-being workshop, having the right tools to manage these is key.

With Wix Events, you can:
Run in-person, online or hybrid events.
Enable easy online registration and optional donations.
Send automated email confirmations and event reminders.
Add a clear events calendar to your site that’s easy to update.
Carers and Communities always have a busy events schedule, ensuring their community is kept informed of the latest news and any recent changes to legislation. They also run lots of well-being events to ensure carers can apply self-care practices to bolster their mental health and resilience. Please take a look at their events calendar here: https://www.carersandcommunities.org.uk/events We used Wix Events to promote Community Action Malvern & District’s Midsummer Malvern Celebration—an incredible event that drew between 2,000 and 2,500 attendees and helped raise significant funds. We created separate pages for parking and the event schedule and collaborated with the Malvern Civic Society to ensure smooth promotion and coordination. I even received a letter of thanks for the small part I played in helping to promote their event, take a look below. (There are some lovely photos included).
2. Wix Forms
Wix’s new in-built form editor is a huge win for organisations needing to capture information easily and securely.
Some standout features:
Multi-page forms: Great for referrals or volunteer sign-ups, allowing you to split long forms into manageable sections.
Smart, dynamic forms: Show or hide fields depending on user responses.
Automation-ready: Trigger emails, alerts or database updates upon submission.
Centralised dashboard: All submissions are stored in one place and can be exported as needed.
For Carers and Communities, ensuring uninterrupted referrals during the website transition was non-negotiable. Wix Forms allowed us to do exactly that—keeping support flowing during one of the busiest times of the year: Carers Week. Take a look at their Self Referral form, to see some of the capabilities:
3. Donation Pages
Wix’s donation tools have come a long way. You can now:
Offer one-off or recurring donation options.
Let donors choose from preset amounts or enter their own.
Brand the donation experience to match the rest of your website.
This makes it so much easier for supporters to contribute—and feel good doing it.

4. News or Blog
Keeping your community up to date is essential, not just for service users, but also for donors, volunteers and supporters.
A blog or news page can:
Highlight success stories and ongoing projects.
Promote upcoming events or volunteering opportunities.
Encourage donations or service sign-ups with clear calls to action.
We helped both charities make their blogs feel more like landing pages—each one focused on a single, actionable message. This kind of clarity makes it easier for visitors to engage and take the next step. https://www.communityaction.org.uk/post/join-the-colwall-players-for-death-mountain-a-murder-mystery
5. Newsletters and Email Marketing
The Wix email builder could not be easier to use. The user-friendly editor allows you to start from scratch or use a range of eye-catching templates. If you're just getting started with sending a newsletter or monthly emails, Wix allows you to send 200 emails per month for free. If you have a bigger email marketing group, you can always upgrade. Wix Core package allows you to send 5,000 emails per month, which is usually plenty for a small charity.
Simple Design = Easy to use
Good design isn’t just about how things look—it’s about how easily people can find what they need.
At Citrus Web, we focus on:
Clear pathways for different users, whether someone is looking to get help, make a donation, or refer a client.
Making content easy to read and understand.
Responsive design that works on all devices.
The feedback we’ve had from service users and internal teams alike has been incredibly positive. One of the biggest wins for Carers and Communities was the smooth switch from their old website to the new one—without losing access to events, referrals, or live chat. It all launched successfully at the start of Carers Week, with no disruption, and loads of praise.
Ongoing Support & Collaboration
We don’t just build and walk away. We’ve continued to support both organisations with training, content updates and advanced feature roll-outs as their needs evolve.
If you’re a local charity or CIC looking for a more functional, user-friendly website that genuinely supports your work, Wix is a brilliant web platform, especially when you're working with an experienced Wix web designer! :-) Please call 07704105954 or email helen@citrusweb.co.uk to discuss your next charity web project.
