Jigsaw Worcestershire
Helping a mental health carers' support group reconnect with its community through a refreshed website.

Who are Jigsaw?
Jigsaw Worcestershire Mental Health Carers Support Group has been supporting relatives and carers of people experiencing mental health difficulties since 1996.
Their mission is to promote understanding of mental health issues and empower relatives and carers in a confidential, friendly and supportive environment.
Recognising that caring for someone experiencing mental health difficulties can sometimes feel isolating, Jigsaw provides a place for people to talk, share experiences and access much-needed support. Through regular support meetings in Malvern and Worcester, they offer practical advice, helpful information, guest speakers with expertise in mental health, social activities and a regular newsletter. They also help people find the right information and signpost them to other sources of support.
At the heart of Jigsaw is a simple but important aim: making sure that no one feels they have to navigate the challenges of caring for someone with mental health difficulties alone.
Website Challenges and Objectives
Jigsaw had lost access to and control of their existing website, which meant they were unable to keep the information up to date or make changes when needed. The design had also become dated and no longer reflected the organisation or the support it provides.
They needed a fresh start, with a website that would clearly communicate who they are, who they support and how people could get involved.
An important part of the project was helping Jigsaw clarify their messaging. We wanted to make it easier for people visiting the website to understand the support available, find upcoming meetings and discover how Jigsaw could help them.
The key objectives were to:
-
Create a fresh, welcoming and easy-to-navigate website.
-
Clearly explain who Jigsaw are and the support they provide.
-
Make meeting dates, times and venue information easy to find.
-
Introduce a simple meeting calendar that could be kept up to date.
-
Showcase upcoming guest speakers and their areas of expertise.
-
Encourage people to sign up for the regular newsletter.
-
Make it easier to find useful information and signposting to further support.
-
Give the volunteers control over their website so they could manage it independently.

The Solution
I worked closely with Sue and Roy to develop a new Wix website that better reflected Jigsaw's personality, purpose and the people it supports.
Rather than simply giving the existing website a visual refresh, we took the opportunity to look at the structure, content and overall user experience.
We focused on making the information clear, accessible and easy to navigate, ensuring that visitors could quickly understand what Jigsaw offers and find the support they were looking for.
Key Improvements included:
-
Clearer messaging: Reworking the content to explain who Jigsaw supports, what they do and how people can benefit from joining.
-
Meeting calendar: An easy-to-use way to display upcoming support meetings in Malvern and Worcester, including dates and venue details.
-
Newsletter sign-up: An opportunity for visitors to subscribe to Jigsaw's regular newsletter and keep up to date with news, meetings and events.
-
Useful information and support: Making it easier for visitors to find relevant information and signposting to other sources of help.
-
A fresh, accessible design: Creating a welcoming online presence that feels approachable and reflects the supportive nature of the group.
Throughout the project, I met with Sue and Roy regularly in person to gather information, discuss ideas and share progress. These face-to-face meetings gave us the opportunity to work through the content together, review the designs and make sure the website was heading in the right direction.
It was important to me that they felt involved and confident in the decisions being made, rather than simply being handed a finished website at the end.
Additional support
For a small voluntary organisation, having a website that looks good is only part of the picture. It's equally important to have the knowledge and confidence to keep it updated.
Once the new website was complete, I provided a Wix training session to help the volunteers understand how to manage their website, update meeting dates, add new information and make changes independently.
We also looked beyond the website to help Jigsaw make better use of its digital marketing.
This included:
-
Wix training: How to manage and update their new website.
-
Email marketing: Setting up Wix Email Marketing so they could create and send newsletters directly from their website platform.
-
Social media training: Providing a couple of training sessions to help them use social media more effectively to share news, promote meetings and reach more people.
-
Ongoing support: Being on hand to answer questions and provide additional guidance as they became more confident managing their digital presence.
The aim was to give Jigsaw the tools and confidence to manage their website and communications themselves, without having to rely on external help for every small update.
A website that works harder for the people who need it
Jigsaw now has a modern, easy-to-manage website that clearly communicates the support they provide and makes it easier for people to find out about the group, attend meetings and stay connected.
Just as importantly, the committee has regained control of its online presence and has the knowledge and confidence to keep things moving forward.
It's been a pleasure working with Sue, Roy and the wider committee on a project that makes a real difference to people in our local community.
