Fighting Loneliness Through Community – Our Partnership with Community Action

This Mental Health Awareness Week, I'm incredibly proud to announce Community Action Malvern and District as Citrus Web’s first-ever Charity of the Year.

It takes a lot of organisation and preparation - but it's lots of fun too!

Their work is quietly transformational – helping older and vulnerable people across Malvern feel less alone. From community transport and befriending services to social clubs and their much-loved Sunday Tea Parties, Community Action is all about creating connection and belonging.

And that really matters – especially this week, when the national focus is on mental health and community.

I can empathise deeply with those stuck at home with little conversation or connection. Being self-employed, I know how isolating it can be working from home for long periods – it’s easy to get stuck in your own thoughts, and if you’re not careful, that negativity can spiral. I’ve been there, and from conversations with others who are self-employed, I know I’m not alone.

I

Another, more personal reason I feel so strongly about the work Community Action does is that I lost my dad to suicide in my twenties. That loss stays with me – and it’s why I’m so passionate about supporting a charity that champions togetherness, kindness and never feeling too alone to ask for help.

To some, these services might seem 'nice' or even trivial – but they’re not. It’s not just about tea and cake. It’s about giving people something to look forward to, a reason to leave the house, the chance to talk, laugh and feel seen. That can make all the difference to someone’s wellbeing.

On a lighter note, I also just love being around the wonderful people who come to the Sunday Tea Clubs – volunteers and guests alike. There’s always a good natter, lots of smiles, and some excellent cake! It reminds me of my Nanna, who lived to 96 and would’ve absolutely loved it. Volunteering brings me a huge sense of purpose, and it’s been amazing to see my daughter Isabella’s confidence and caring nature grow too.

So, how can your business get involved?

If you're a local business looking to support something meaningful, I can’t recommend Community Action enough.
